I've been following the guidance at http://about.validator.nu/#src to try to install a local instance. There is mention of various requirements: "The script requires Python, Mercurial, Subversion and JDK 5 or later". 

In addition to these, you now also need to have GIT available, but this is not mentioned.

Fixed now I think; the page now just references https://validator.github.io/validator/#build-instructions
